The IPTV market
IPTV is a dynamic and fast growing market. According to MRG, the number of total global IPTV subscribers will grow from 20 million subscribers to 89 million in 2012.
Communication services are no longer the sole business for telecom operators and the search is on to differentiate, increase average revenue per user (ARPU) and keep customers loyal in these competitive times. This has driven telecom operators to add IPTV services to their existing internet and/or VoIP telephony offers.
IPTV operator needs
Gaining access to premium content from content owners/studios is key for running an attractive and successful IPTV business. As a strong requirement from content owners/studios telecom operators must ensure that they have a robust digital rights management (DRM) and conditional access (CA) solution in place to avoid any prosecution by the rights holders and to avoid the access to the content being withdrawn.
By securing its premium content with a CA/DRM solution, the telecom operator will protect its revenue, ARPU and return on investment.
Revenue protection is not the only concern: telecom operators expect their content protection solution to be quick to deploy and scalable to meet their needs as their customer base expands.
